Start with the basic case information

Gather the full legal names of both spouses, current contact information, the date and place of marriage, the date of separation, and any prior court case number connected to the marriage.

List property and debts

Prepare a clear list of real estate, vehicles, bank accounts, retirement accounts, major personal property, credit cards, loans, and other debts. Note how you and the other party have decided each item should be addressed.

Organize information involving children

When children are involved, gather their full names and birth dates, recent addresses, proposed parenting schedules, and the decisions you have already made regarding custody, visitation, and support.

Know the limits of document preparation

LawMart can prepare documents from the decisions and information you provide. LawMart cannot advise you what terms to accept, evaluate whether an agreement is fair, or represent you in a disputed matter.
